There are K-Drama fans across the globe who share the same passion. But on online platforms, it is hard to know about each other’ stories and tastes. Even if we are in the same fandom, it is hard to get to know each other. So at Kpopmap, we started the Kpopmap Fan Interview Project to get to know more about K-Drama fans from different countries. Just like the Kpopmap Fan Interview for idols, the Kpopmap Fan Interview for actors aims to open the opportunity for fans to promote, talk about, and share their love for their favorite actor/actress with our readers. Kate from the Philippines is the next fan to answer our questions about their favorite actor- Seo InGuk! Check out how she became his fan, the reasons why she is a fan, the dramas they recommend, and much more insights about Seo InGuk. Can you introduce yourself? Where are you from? Mabuhay! This is Kate from the Philippines. I am actually a multi-fan of both K-Pop and Korean dramas. Also, please allow me to sincerely thank Seo In Guk Philippines for considering me to participate in this interview. Who is your favorite Korean actor/actress? And how and when did you become a fan? Seo InGuk is one of my favorite Korean actors. I became a fan of his when I first saw him on the Korean drama entitled “Master’s Sun”. His character as Kang Woo really captivated my heart, and got second lead syndrome! I even got surprised when he sang one of the drama’s OST. The title is ‘No Matter What’. Here is the video link: Then, I watched him on “Reply 1997”, “Remember You”, and “Doom At Your Service”. What are the reasons why you love your favorite actor? His work attitude is truly admirable because in whatever he does, may it be a drama, movie, song/album, you can definitely feel and reflect his ALL-IN love and passion to his craft. He is a multitalented singer, actor, composer, and artist. And when I say multitalented, Seo InGuk is all-rounder, regardless of the genre, and in such a way that his chosen characters always bring refreshing aura and intrigue. And as you watch, you can totally understand why he chose the project he is in. On the other side, he is so humble, caring, and loving to his family (especially to his mother), friends, and fans. His funny side made me even fall for him the hardest. Can you recommend dramas or movies starring your favorite actor for new fans? To be honest, I still have dramas/movies of him on my to-do watch list. Likewise, I would still like you to watch him on “Master’s Sun”. Please do include that on your priority list. Other dramas to watch are “Reply 1997”, “Remember You”, and “Doom At Your Service”. Recently, I got a chance to catch up and watched “Shopping King Louis” and it was heart-warming, hilarious, and the love line is purely innocent yet brings magnitude of feels and life lessons. And of course, please do watch his most recent drama, “Café Minamdang”, which is available on Netflix. Do you have an all-time favorite scene? Can you describe it or share a video? This is indeed a challenging decision to make, but I have to say the kissing under the rain scene of Park BoYoung and Seo InGuk at “Doom At Your Service”. I was over the moon specifically when Seo InGuk said “No,” as Park BoYoung wished him to love her. The expression of Seo InGuk, those eyes, the sound of his deep breath before kissing her totally is the perfect way of expressing his innermost feelings for her. The electrifying feeling of saying “No,” but acting differently because he follows what his heart truly wants at that moment. Seo InGuk is excellent in these kind of scenes. This is the entire scene I like the most, especially from time stamp 1:31 onwards. What was your favorite answer given by your favorite actor in an interview? I think it was in the interview he had way back 2012 when he said “If you don’t have the confidence, the flaws show more.” I liked this the most because you can see how he embrace his self, acknowledging both his strengths and weaknesses. I think it is truly remarkable and challenging at the same time. The failure he has to experience fueled him more to do better. I salute him for the kind of attitude and mentality at that very moment. It also certainly matched my personal mantra “You make the failure complete when you stop trying”. That made me felt a strong and special connection between me (as a fan) and him (as the artist I admire). What is your favorite actor’s influence on your daily life or yourself? His work ethic is the one for me. He has been working really hard these days. A new drama (“Café Minamdang”), a new film, recently released comeback album, and not to mention him participating as one of the OST singers and composer as well. Seeing him working so hard and passionately brings me an unexplainable energy to do better as well - especially at times when I feel disheartened or lost in life. What genre do you want your favorite actor to appear in? What’s the reason? I always wonder how his acting will be in a medical romcom/revenge drama with some action scenes. This is because I am sincerely in great awe of his expressive eyes when acting. A Thousand words and feelings can be conveyed by those eyes of his. Which actors would you like your favorite actor to act with? What’s the reason? A reunion drama with Park BoYoung will always be my dream. Also, I am curious about him working with Han HyoJoo in a genre I have mentioned earlier. I think they would have an amazing chemistry and dynamics on screen. Describe your favorite actor in 5 words. [Seo InGuk is a] shining, breath-taking gem for keeps. If you could spend the day with them, what would you want to do together? If I could spend a day with Seo InGuk, I really wanted to go camping with him. If you watched “Cafe Minamdang”, you would surely know what I mean. I super liked that idea. Me and him, enjoying our free time away from everything, relaxing, talking our visions in life, singing along together or may be he can sing “I Like You” an OST from “Cafe Minamdang” while playing guitar. These simple joys in life. I think I am daydreaming so much. 🤣 Can you recall a moment where you cried/laughed with your favourite actor? The most recent I could remember was one of the scenes at “Doom At Your Service”. It strikes me even at this moment. That was in Episode 11, when Seo InGuk (MyulMang) smiled and said, “I am no longer alone”. It was actually tears of joy. The sense of relief and fulfillment that finally his character has met someone to live for, for him to see life differently. For Kpopmap readers who are not familiar with Korean dramas/movies yet, please tell us what makes Korean actors and Korean dramas/movies attractive to you. I am fascinated on the way they incorporate and relate their culture in their dramas/movies. From the history and beliefs, amazing dishes, beautiful places, and any possible significant representation of their country, it shows how they love, support, and preserve their identity. Also, their scenarios, story lines, and plots will definitely made you believe it is possible and realistic, even if the drama genre is fantasy. It has that certain charm that will either make you relate, self-reflect, realize, which can be helpful in your personal and professional life. What is the 1st K-Drama you’ve watched? This is a tricky one. There were two dramas that came to my mind. The first one was shown in our local TV channel (Filipino dubbed). It’s “Autumn In My Heart” starring Song HyeKyo, Song SeungHoon, and Won Bin. The other one would be the first one ever that I watched in full-length, no cuts, in original Korean voicing, and English subbed. It is “He’s Beautiful” starring Jang KeunSuk, Park ShinHye, Jung YongHwa, and Lee HongKi. I remembered that I borrowed CDs from a close friend of mine. Feels nostalgic, isn’t it? Imagine how challenging it was for me to sneak just to open the TV and DVD player, and change the CDs after few episodes. Disc 1, 2, and 3. Those in the same generation as mine may totally relate. But it’s really fun remembering those days. Kate’s message for Seo InGuk: Dear Actor Seo InGuk, Thank you for working hard, for sharing your exceptional talent with us. We greatly appreciate all your efforts and passion in every project you take and please do know that we, your fans, will always be by your side supporting you every step of the way and in every possible way we can. I hope I can meet you someday – it would be nice to be part of your fan meeting/concert crowd in the future. If only the universe would allow, I would be extra happy to see you up close and to be able to tell you that you are at your best-est version of yourself. You are doing so great and you deserve all the happiness in life. Also, I am sincerely rooting for you to have someone who is loving, sincere, supportive, and understanding as a partner in life in the future. Once again, thank you for coming into my life, for bringing in joyful and inspiration. You have no idea how it help us to keep going and never give up in life. Stay healthy, cute, handsome, and sexy our versatile singer and actor Seo InGuk! Mahal kita! Mahal ka namin! See you in the Philippines in the near future.
